Reliable internet in the camper or on board: what are your options?

In today's day and age, this is becoming increasingly important for internet users. Where do you start when putting together your internet bundle? How much data do you need? MiFi router

Do you spend a lot of time in the car, camper or on a boat? Do you want to be connected to mobile internet anytime, do you want to enjoy uninterrupted Netflix streaming on your camper or yacht with a reliable 4G MiFi router or 5G MiFi router? Then a mobile wifi (MiFi) is the right solution for you. Just like with your smartphone, you place a SIM card in the MiFi router. The MiFi connects to the 5G (MiFi Routers 5G) or 4G/LTE (MiFi Routers 4G LTE) network, with which up to 50 users can connect. In addition, many MiFi routers are equipped with a large capacity battery so that they can also be used as a power bank.

• Consider your internet behaviour when taking out a data subscription or purchasing a prepaid data SIM card. For sending WhatsApp messages, emails and visiting news sites, 3G speed is sufficient. However, as soon as you want to stream videos or music, you are better off choosing a 4G or 4G+ bundle.
  
  
• MiFi routers have stronger antennas, compared to smartphones. In addition, most mobile routers are equipped with antenna ports, which makes it possible to connect an external antenna. This ensures that you always have a strong internet connection, even when the 4G signal is weak in for example rural areas.

M2M routers

It is also possible to install a built-in mobile router in your camper or boat. These routers are called M2M routers (machine-to-machine). These M2M routers are industrial grade routers, built for resisting harsh and demanding conditions.

• If you choose to build in your router, it is also advisable to purchase a fixed built-in 3G or 4G antenna. If the router is only suitable for the 3G network then the router only comes equipped with one external antenna port. For single port routers a 3G or 4G LTE antenna would be sufficient. A portable MiFi router is often equipped with CRC9 or TS9 antenna connectors.
  
  
• In the case of a 4G router, this works with the so-called MiMo technology. MiMo stands for Multiple input and Multiple output. This router works with two antennas, one antenna transmits and the other receives. The routers work optimally when a MiMo antenna is connected. A MiMo antenna has two antennas in a single housing.
